Let the four numbers be: a,b,c,d with "d" being the largest
Average=Sum/Total
or Average=(a+b+c+d)/4
Given:
(a+b+c+d)/4=3*d
a+b+c+d=12d
a+b+c=11d
The sum must be a multiple of 11. Hence 33 is the correct answer.

The average (arithmetic mean) of four numbers is equal to three times the largest number. If the largest number is equal to 3, what is the sum of the other three numbers?

A. 28.
B. 33.
C. 35.
D. 38.
E. 42.

\(\frac{a + b + c + 3}{4} = 3*3\)

Or, \((a + b + c ) = 36 - 3\)

Or, \((a + b + c ) = 33\), Answer must be (B)

A. 28.
B. 33.
C. 35.
D. 38.

The average is\( = 3*the \ largest \ number =3*3=9\)

Total value the numbers \(= 9*4=36\)

Sum of the rest of the numbers \(= 36-3=33\)

The answer is \(B. \)

Ok. But I have confusion. If the largest number 3 then how could be the sum of the other three numbers will be 33?

All three numbers can be maximum 3 each.

What is my missing? Bunuel

The average (arithmetic mean) of four numbers is equal to three times the smallest number. If the largest number is equal to 3, what is the sum of the other three numbers?

A. 28.
B. 33.
C. 35.
D. 38.
E. 42.
Is the question correct? It says that the average is 3 times the smallest number and then goes on to give the value of the largest number as 3
