Randi sells forklifts at a dealership where she makes a base salary of $2,000 per month, plus a commission equal to 5% of the selling price of the first 10 forklifts she sells that month, and 10% of the value of the selling price of any forklifts after that. If all forklifts have the same sale price, s, which of the choices below represents Randi’s monthly pay, P, as a function of the number of forklifts sold, f, in months in which she sells more than 10 forklifts? (Assume Randi’s pay is made up entirely of base salary and commission, and no deductions are taken from this pay.)

(A) P = 2,000 + 0.05sf + 0.10sf
(B) P = 2,000 + 0.05sf + 0.10s(f – 10)
(C) P = 2,000 + 0.05s + 0.10s(f – 10)
(D) P = 2,000 + 0.5s + 0.10sf – 10
(E) P = 2,000 + 0.5s + 0.10s(f – 10)

selling price = s, and total forklifts sold - f
So, three items..
(I) A base salary of $2,000 per month, ----2000
(II) A commission equal to 5% of the selling price of the first 10 forklifts she sells that month, ----\(\frac{5}{100}*10*s=0.5s\)
(III) A commission equal to 10% of the value of the selling price of any forklifts after that, so (f-10) forklifts.----\(\frac{10}{100}*(f-10)*s=0.10s(f-10)\)

Total = P = 2,000 + 0.5s + 0.10s(f – 10)

E

1st: and total forklifts sold - f >>> is this minus f or only f?
2nd: A commission equal to 5% of the selling price of the first 10 forklifts she sells that month -------so why not 0.5sf whereas we are going sell forklifts means f.?

! : it is f forklifts...only f
2nd : 5% is for first 10 forklift, si whatever be the number of forklifts, the first 10 are sold at profit of 5% and the rest, that is f-10, are sold at 10% profit..
For the first 10 forklifts, the total, f, does not matter and does not come into play till the time f>10. If f<10, then only commission would be 5%.

In 0.5s, you have already taken as the number of forklift as 10, you cannot multiply that with another number f.

Let the selling price of the forklifts be s and the total forklifts sold be f.

For the first 10 forklifts, the commission will be 0.05*10*s = 0.5s

For the next f-10 forklifts, the commission will be 0.10*s*(f-10)

Thus, Randi’s monthly pay, P = 2,000 + 0.5s + 0.10s(f-10)

The correct option is E.
