Amount Maurice earns for working for 8 hours = $6 x 8 = $48
Amount Maurice earns for every hour worked more = 1.5 x $6 = $9
Maurice worked 10 hours on a given day = $48 + 2 x $9 = $48 + $18 = $66
Hours Maurice worked = 10
Average pay per hour = $ earned / hours worked = 66/10 = $6.6

One clarification here.
The question does not mention that the new rate (6x1.5) is for each hour worked extra. One might assume that if one works for n hours, where n>8, the new rate will apply i.e 10 Hours x 6(1.5)= 90 Dollars.
