Refer the following question from OG.
In 1974 a large area of the surface of Mercury was photographed from varying distances, which revealed a degree of cratering similar to that of the Moon’s.
(A) which revealed a degree of cratering similar to that of the Moon’s
(B) to reveal a degree of cratering similar to the Moon
(C) revealing a degree of cratering similar to that of the Moon
(D) and revealed cratering similar in degree to the Moon
(E) that revealed cratering similar in degree to that of the Moon
I am confused about the use of 'which'. What does which refer to?
What does 'which' modify?
The OG says the 'which' part of option A is correct. It is incorrect because of ' moon's '. I assumed A as incorrect because is which does not modify its antecedent.

I agree with you, which modifies noun just before it
and here distances did not reveal the cratering
it is the action of the previous clause ( photograhp) which revealed the cratering
In my opinion ,verb+ing should fit in here
Option C ,
lets wait for other experta to comment .
Could you tag Rich or Mike in this question .
