Separate out the choices into two groups - whether and how.

Whether is incorrect since the statement includes - "without having to move around one other". So the study was trying to find "how"

Left with A, C & D

A & C are incorrect since - "has yielded interesting results" in incorrect. Studies ........ have yielded ........ not has yielded.

D is correct . ....."have yielded ....."

A has is wrong
B whether is wrong as we are not looking for any confirmation. We are sure that they interact without having to move
C has is wrong
E same as B

here we should choose interesting results over results of interest. only A, C and D have that. A and C are wrong. So D is correct . we don't have to consider whether or how.

Correct me if i am wrong

My approach was like below:
1. It has to be "have" and not "has"
2. so left with option D and E.
3. Option E doesn't sound good and left with D

whether / how : Using "whether" implies we are questioning if plasma particles move in groups or in pairs which changes the original meaning. This eliminates B and E.

has/have : This eliminates A and C

This isn't really a "how vs. whether" issue...

A. how plasma particles in groups or in pairs interact with each another, without having to move around one other, has yielded interesting results and attracted the attention

"with each another" and "move around one other" are both completely wrong idioms

B. whether plasma particles in groups or in pairs interact with one another or not, without having to move around each other, have yielded results of interest and attracted the attention

"whether... with one another or not" is redundant

C. how plasma particles in groups or in pairs interact with each another or not, without having to move around one other, has yielded interesting results and have attracted the attention

"with each another" and "around one other" are wrong

D. how plasma particles in groups or in pairs interact with one another, without having to move around each other, have yielded interesting results and attracted the attention

Correct

E. whether plasma particles in groups or in pairs interact with each another, without having to move around one other, have yielded results of interest and have attracted the attention

"with each another" and "around one other" are wrong

IMO, how/whether is not the "only" issue, but one of them. geturdream (Has/Have) and TehJay (wrong idiom/redundancy) pointed out other problems. Usually the incorrect options have multiple errors.
