Oops  ,
I think you are right brajesh. On second thought ' which ' is indeed modifying 'carbon-bromine bond' whereas it should be pointing to the ' strength of the bond'.
I was always confused between 'which Vs that'.

Will go with D. Which modifies the carbon-bromine bond whereas we are talking of the strength of the bond hence that is correct.

We need stronger than, not greater than. A and C is out. E is also out as it's plain awkward.

We need 'that' as 'which' is used as a relative pronoun to introduce a modifier (the carbon-bromine bond).

I'll go with D

I like B,

[ carbon-bromine bond], which is in turn stronger than a carbon-iodine bond. .... I read this as cabon-bromine bond is stronger than carbon-iodine.... sounds good

...., that is stronger than a carbon-iodine.....[I read this as the strength of carbon-bromie is stronger than carbon-iodine..... shouldnt this be "than that of carbon-idonie.. to be right"

what is OA please

ok... one more for B... here is why:

Using Which vs. that

which: usually set off with commas and introduces extra information

that: NEVER set off with commas and introduces essential information

The strength of a carbon-chlorine bond is stronger than that of a carbon-bromine bond, which is in turn greater than a carbon-iodine bond...

in this clause (which is in turn greater than a carbon-iodine bond) we are talking about the bond and not the strength of it!!! Therefore, WHICH in this case should be correct and refers to a carbon-bromine bond... not the strength of c-chlorine...

ultimately, commas really give the answer away, since they are not in an underlined portion.

anyone agrees?

Are you sure it isn't B? What is the meaningful difference b/w stronger and greater?.... I would think since they used stronger, then we should not change it in the second clause... do you have official explanation?
