Don't u think 'E' is changing the meaning of the sentence. The original sentence says "last years" whereas 'E' says 'last year'

though not great choice. But C seems to be the best among given.

ans...
regarded as is the correct idiom.... so only D and E hold merit....
D changes verb tense by using 'Ezra Pound had devoted his last years' and also avoid use of being if better option available......
E is the best we have but u r right changes meaning with year and years... a thought, 'last few years' is ok but years does not go with only last ..... it can be only one year which can be last ...so last year should be ok...
