Another problem with B is that when have means possession acts as a state verb and state verb cannot take the gerund form.

For instance, you cannot say I'm having a car

torn between D & E; skipped D for wordiness
not C for missing a computer

All over the world, 80 percent of the people use a computer, 60 percent access the internet and 40 percent are having a computer at home.
A• 80 percent of the people use a computer, 60 percent access the internet and 40 percent are having
B• 80 percent of the people use computers, 60 percent of the people access the internet and 40 percent of the people are having
C• 80 percent of the people use computer, 60 percent access the internet and 40 percent have
D• 80 percent of the people use a computer, 60 percent of them access the internet and 40 percent have
E• 80 percent of the people use a computer, 60 percent access the internet and 40 percent have

OA: please wait :)
my answer was B
what is the problem with B

I know you posted OA as E, but I think C is correct here.

80 percent of the people use a computer can imply that all 80% use one particular computer ('a' here is determiner)...
So I doubt the OA.

Disagree, if it was 80% use THE computer - than that would be ONE computer.

It also says at the end that "40 percent have a computer" - it does not reffer to one specific computer.

However, I do not think that actual GMAT would test difference between C and E since it is one very small difference.

hey good point :"40 percent have a computer" -

so now E makes sense. all three parts are using determiners ('a', 'the' and 'a').

a computer is wrong.

Slash A, D, and E

Left with B and C

use computer and not computers. are having is incorrect verb usage. Have is correct.

Thus "C"

C...
parallel constr'80 percent of the people use computer, 60 percent access the internet and 40 percent have'....
B has are having...
E has "a computer'

similarly, a computer, the internet and a computer are parallel.

IMO E
