Hi Farrah,
I am also applying to Merage and Owen so I will try and speak on my feelings towards those programs.
The location of UC Irvine is fantastic. It is near the beach and in the center of a growing corporate community, simultaneously it is less than an hour away from Los Angeles, the second largest metropolitan area in the country. I grew up in Southern California and UC Irvine is highly respected for undergrad and MBA programs. It is not as prestigious as UCLA, but because they are part of the same school system, the level of respect seems to be the same.
I have enjoyed the limited amount of time that I've spent in Nashville, although it is very different from California. I have family friends that have graduated from the bachelors and MBA programs at Vanderbilt and they are strong supporters of the school decades later. Based on the information they have given me, the local area is very supportive of Owen grads.
As you stated, the recruiting at Owen is very strong, which I believe has to do with the growing Nashville economy, but I also think it is a school that is relatively well known around the country. UC Irvine may not be as nationally known, I suspect this is largely due to landing in the shadows of UCLA and to an extent USC as well. If you haven't, look into the Merage Career Center's "Career Visioning" service. This was one of the strongest factors for me in choosing the school, I think it is a unique approach and especially beneficial for people looking to transition into a new industry.
A last factor that I will touch on is the cost of living. The average house in Irvine is $850,000 while the average home price in Nashville is $339,000, with suburban house prices landing below $200,000. Although I haven't even finished my applications, this may become a major factor in my decision making.
I hope I was able to shed a little bit of light on the differences between these schools beyond curriculum. Regardless, any of the schools that you listed should provide you with an excellent education and opportunities to build a rewarding career.
Good luck!
