Interview for ESSEC MBA Luxe

Question

Hello. I have been invited to interview for ESSEC's MBA in International Luxury Brand Management.

I am seeking advice from those who have been through the process before. I really want to attend this program.

Here are my questions.

Who sits on the panel?  
 What should I be prepared to discuss?  
 What is the panel trying to understand about me?  
 What questions do they ask of applicants?  
 What does the invitation actually mean?  
 When can I expect a decision?

Here are a few suggestions for the interview.

1. Visit ESSECS's website and find out what they have to say about admission interviews. This can give you a broad idea of what they look for in a candidate during interviews.

2. Many former applicants blog about their interview experience. You can read blogs about ESSEC interviews; this would give you a very good idea of the interview questions that are asked.

3. Get in touch with alumni of ESSEC and see what advice they would have for you. After interacting with them and taking in their perspective, frame your own answers for the common interview questions that ESSEC generally asks. Of course you may face some entirely new questions in your actual interview, but the more prepared you are the better you will face the surprise questions.

4. Gather as much information as you can about the school. You must have already done this when you were writing your essays. Revisit your research. Visit the school if possible (if you did not visit before). In the interview you will have to show how eager you are to join ESSEC and how you make a perfect fit for it.

5. Practice as much you can. Take the help of your family and friends and have as many mock interviews as you can before the actual interview.

I would recommend getting in touch with the student ambassador for the program which you can access on the website who has been through it all and can give you the best advice!

My advice, make sure you have a clear direction in mind for why you want to do the MBA and also, demonstrate your passion and knowledge of the luxury market.

Well ESSEC has a really great Luxury management program and is a very well respected college in France, so kudos for your interview invite.
By getting to the interview round you can be sure that your college admit is closer than ever, but you have to be sure that you dont bungle up this round as it carries around 20% weightage.

The Panel
Well my interview was really early in the morning, at a nice restaurant in New Delhi. I was the second guy to be interviewed so the panel members were really fresh and vibrant, and were asking me a number of questions.
The panel consisted of 3 members, there were two alums from ESSEC out of which one was an entrepreneur and the other one was working at a MNC. The 3rd panel member was a professor from the Singapore campus of ESSEC. I noticed the professor and the entrepreneur were asking a number of questions, while the third guy was quietly evaluating me & just asked 2-3 questions in the whole interview.
They had a form on which they were jotting down points as i spoke, i guess this was a common framework via which they evaluated and scored all the applicants.

So, what kind of questions are asked in the ESSEC interview??

Why did you choose ESSEC?
Which other colleges did you apply too? Did you have any interviews before us?
How was the experience?
What are you passionate about? and how do you follow your passions?
Why the MiM, why not a MBA?
Why do you want to study in France?
Why not study in India, and apply for one of the top schools?
How did you decide which schools you want to apply to?
What did you find different in ESSEC compared to the other schools.
Tell me about an incident where you led a group of people and what you learnt from it
We are interested in people who think about more than just themselves. So give me an incident where you helped someone else grow.
What are your long term goals? and how will ESSEC help you achieve them?
Tell me about your work experience, while concentrating on the skills you learned from it.
Tell me how will you contribute towards the development of the school.
What are some of the things that you expect to learn at ESSEC?
Any questions for us? (Tip: Prepare well & ask some insightful questions)

Well the interview went really well, and i really liked the panel. They were very friendly and encouraging. They also seemed genuinely interested to find the best candidate for their school.

ESSEC has a really good site, with great online resources and campus videos. Be sure to go through them, to get a better understanding of the school and its values. The panel members are usually very interested to know why you chose ESSEC, so prepare well
