It sounds like a great idea for your profile. The last round is the trickiest but if you play your cards right and have a good enough GMAT score, things should work out for you. Are you applying to any other programs as well?

Best,
Scott

Its been on my mind since moving out to SF a few months ago. Unfortunately with the cycles and rounds, I will only be applying to Haas for the upcoming year. Depending on how that goes, I will plan better for applications the following year if need be. Also, thank you for the positive feedback.

You have a nice profile and if the GMAT works out you should be fine now, going PTMBA would be the way to go given your salary. If you can get it paid for even better!

congrats on your accomplishments so far. one thing I'm sure you know - data science is very much en vogue right now at MBA programs.

sounds like you're thinking about it the right way. I would encourage you to consider a few things:

1. what sort of role would I want an MBA to propel me into? are you looking to get away from pure data science and into management of your company? or maybe you're simply seeking a deeper understanding of business principles so you can excel at your current job?

2. one thing people don't publicize much about part time programs is how often people actually do end up switching jobs during or immediately post-MBA. the experience will open you up to a whole new world from a network perspective, given your classmates will all be coming from various careers. Even if you're happy in your current role, this experience could provide you more data around other potential careers.

Hope this helps!

Thanks for your reply. I didn't have time to apply to the third round but now face a dilemma of applying to the rolling admissions without having a Gmat score. I was planning on waiting a year but now debating trying my luck for the last entrance.

My job has been highly cross functional where I am solving alot of business problems and also my undergrad included econ as a second major. So business problems are not a problem. I just know I want to finish my MBA before my 30's and eventually go into upper management in data science/ analytics/ strategy line of work.

You should aim to take the GMAT in advance of submission, there are not too many excuses the schools will make exceptions for. Now if you are planning to submit in advance of taking the GMAT you will need to notify the school but they will not evaluate your candidacy without this score

Hi guys,

Just wondering if you guys think a part time mba is worth it for myself. I am in the career I love but eventually want into get into upper management thus a part time mba is something i want to strive for.

Background :
undergrad: stats/econ (top 20 program)
masters: stats (top 5 program)
work experience: 3 years
profession: data scientist
age: 25

only looking into Haas

Also, would they admit someone this young? Planning on taking gmat in next month and applying for the last round.

I'm curious what made you interested in going for an MBA despite being in an SF startup as a data scientist?
