Hi! I'll start this with a disclaimer... I'm not sure if this is the correct place for a post-MBA career advice, so if this isn't, please direct me to the right place.
I just received an admit to the Haas EWMBA program (class of 2024) and I'm trying to work on my post-MBA goals. Even though my essays were heavily inclined towards an entrepreneurship route, I'm also keen on exploring other options. 1) Product Management- From most of the profiles on the EWMBA grads, PM seems like the roles most people end up with. I'm considering this as a fallback option. 2) Teaching- This is definitely out there as I have not seen many an example of folks enrolling in a PhD post the EWMBA program but I'm a PhD drop-out and have been keen on teaching positions for a while. After talking to professors I got two kinds of responses- a) Part-time is not the best way to go about it since you won't have time to deep-dive academically in subjects, better got full-time. b) If you get a couple publications is few conferences, it will show intent and you can develop a PhD admission case post the EWMBA.
I was left with both hope and pessimism after the conversations. Are there not any examples of people pursuing a PhD in business administration post a PT program who eventually become professors in business schools? If yes, then I'd love to talk to them. If not, then I'll continue on exploring other options.
Thanks in advance for your response.

Hi HaasyaKavi, first, congrats on your admissions! I'm not an expert but I think MBA vs. Ph.D. in BA are very different. If you are passionate about teaching, maybe Ph.D. in BA should be your focus? Correct me if you are wrong, but I think most professor roles required a Ph.D. degree to become Assistant Professor unless you are fine with being a Lecturer. Perhaps weigh between PM and teaching and see which path you truly like?
