I believe that I have a compelling story about overcoming obesity and uses the lessons I learned during that journey to help a friend who was struggling with alcohol use. I believe that I can demonstrate leadership and empathy with this story. I also have professional examples of adversity, but I feel that this story would be more powerful.

The Tepper prompt is sufficiently open-ended where you can just as easily talk about a professional adversity as you could about a personal adversity. If you feel like the personal story is more meaningful and, thereby, impactful, go with it. Depending on how it goes, you may want to weave in how overcoming this personal adversity affected you in your professional setting, though that's far from necessary.
