If x + 2y + 1 = y - x, what is the value of x?
To find x we need the unique value of y.
(1) y^2 = 9 --> y=3 or y=-3. not sufficient.
(2) y = 3. Sufficient.
Answer: B.

1) y² = 9 so y = +3 or -3 and both values generate different answer for the value of x, hence insufficient, A and D gone
2) y=3 so this will give us only single value of x, remember solving for the value of x is not required, we know seeing x + 2y + 1 = y - x that if we know y , we will get the value of x...
