The lengths of three sides of a triangle are x, x + 2, and x + 4. What is the area of the triangle?
(1) The triangle is a right triangle --> \(x^2+(x+2)^2=(x+4)^2\) --> \(x=-2\) (discard) or \(x=6\). We know all 3 sides, thus we can find the area. Sufficient.
(2) The lengths of two of the sides (in inches) are 8 and 10. The sides can be 8, 10, 12 or 6, 8, 10. The areas of these triangles are different. Not sufficient.
Answer: A.
