In triangle ABC, side AB is 5 inches and side BC is 7 inches. What is the area of the triangle ABC?

(2) Triangle ABC is a right triangle

In triangle ABC, side AB is 5 inches and side BC is 7 inches. What is the area of the triangle ABC?
(1) Angle ABC is 90 degrees. Angle B is 90 degrees means that AB and BC are the legs of right triangle ABC, so the area is 1/2*AB*BC = 1/2*5*7. Sufficient.
(2) Triangle ABC is a right triangle. We don't know which angle is a right angle. If it's B, then we have the case as in (1) but it also could be at angle A, making BC the hypotenuse, and in this case the area would be different. Not sufficient.
Answer: A.
