What is the value of n?
(1) 3n + 2m = 18
(2) n – m = 2n – (4 + m)
(1) 3n + 2m = 18

(1) 3n + 2m = 18
two variables and one equation...
Insuff
(2) n – m = 2n – (4 + m)
again at the first look ---two variables and one equation...
But lets simplify..
n-m=2n-4-m....
so we have get same quantity -m on both sides, which will get cancelled out..
so one equation and one variable

Nice question (illustrates a common myth)
Target question: What is the value of n?
Statement 1: 3n + 2m = 18
One equation with two variables: infinite solutions. In other words, there are infinitely many values of n and m that satisfy statement 1. Here are two:
Case a: n = 0 and m = 9. In this case n = 0
Case b: n = 6 and m = 0. In this case n = 6
Since we cannot answer the target question with certainty, statement 1 is NOT SUFFICIENT
Statement 2: n – m = 2n – (4 + m)
This looks like a single equation with two variables. However...
Simplify: n – m = 2n – 4 - m
Add m to both sides to get: n = 2n - 4
Rearrange to get: 4 = n
Since we can answer the target question with certainty, statement 2 is SUFFICIENT
