If (p - q) is not equal to zero, what is the value of p/(p - q)?

(2) 13 - p = 11 + q

Stat 2 ==> Not suff, even if we equate in terms of either p or q , we still wont be able to factor out either p or q from the fraction

Given:  
 • The value of p – q is not equal to 0

To find:  
 • The value of  \frac{p}{(p – q)}

Approach and Working:   
 • To find the value of the expression  \frac{p}{(p – q)} , if we can find the ratio of p and q then we can convert the expression in terms of either p or q to get the final value
 o Hence, we need to find out the ratio of p and q

Analysing Statement 1  
 • As per the information given in statement 1, 13p – 11q = 0
 o Or, p =  \frac{11}{13}  q

• Replacing this value of p in the given expression we can write:
 o  \frac{p}{(p – q)}  = (11/13)q /  
o simplifying this expression, we can get the value

Hence, statement 1 is sufficient to answer

Analysing Statement 2  
 • As per the information given in statement 2, 13 – p = 11 + q
 o Or, p = 2 – q 
• If we replace the value of p in the given expression, we don’t get an expression with respect to q only  \frac{(2 – q)}{(2 – 2q)} ]

Hence, statement 2 is not sufficient to answer

Hence, the correct answer is option A.

We can write q in terms of p(q= \frac{13}{11} *p) and substitute the value of q in  \frac{p}{(p - q)}

We have  \frac{p}{(p-(13/11)*p)} = - \frac{11}{2}

Therefore, statement(1) is sufficient.

Statement(2):-

We can write q in terms of p(q=2-p) , now we have

\frac{p}{(p - (2-p))} =
 \frac{p}{(2p-2)} 
Since we don't know the value of p, hence we can't calculate the value of  \frac{p}{(2p-2)} .

Therefore, statement(2) is not sufficient.

So. correct answer is A.
