2) x^2 + 2x = 3; factorizing x can be -3 or 1 ; not suff

Is x = 1 ?

St 1 : (3x-2) + (3x+2) = 6

Simplifying, 6x = 6
x = 1

Sufficient

St 2 ; x^2 + 2x = 3

Instead of solving a quadratic equation after taking 3 to L.H.S

We can express the equation as x(x+2) = 1 * 3
By inspection x = 1 or x = -3
Not Sufficient

Is x equal to 1?

(1) \((3x – 2) + (3x + 2) = 6\)

Solving \(6x=6\); \(x=1\)

there is a definite answer to Is x equal to 1?,that is yes.

Statement 1 alone is sufficient.

(2) \(x^2 + 2x = 3\)

\(x^2 + 3x-1x-3 = 0\)

\(x(x+3)-1(x+3)=0\)

\((x-1)(x+3)=0\)

\(x=1\) or \(-3\)

there is no definite answer to Is x equal to 1?, x can be \(-3\) or \(1\).

Statement 2 alone is insufficient.
