What is the arithmetic mean of A and B.
(1) A rectangle with length A and width B has area 500.
(2) A triangle with base of length A and height B has area 250

there can be total 12 factors of 500 and we can have many different mean values ; in sufficient

Solution
To find:
- • The arithmetic mean of A and B = \(\frac{(A + B)}{2}\)
Analysing Statement 1
“A rectangle with length A and width B has area 500”
- • Implies, A * B = 500
• From this we cannot find the value of A + B
Therefore, statement 1 is not sufficient
Analysing Statement 2
“A triangle with base of length A and height B has area 250”
- • Implies, \(\frac{1}{2} * A * B = 250\)
• From this we cannot find the value of A + B
Therefore, statement 2 is not sufficient
Combining Both Statements
Combining both statements, we have A * B = 500
- • From this we cannot find the value of A + B
Therefore, both statements together are not sufficient
Hence, the correct answer is Option E
Answer: E
