If Y does not equal 0, is X = 0?

1) 5x-y/y=0

2) 3xy-6x=0

I solved for 2 and I got :

3x(y-2)=0
3x=0 y=2
I thought that was what the question was looking for but the explanation wasn’t clear, stating that x could be 0 and y could be 2, therefore it’s inconclusive. Could someone please clarify for me?

Given.
Y is not equal to 0 and
3xy-6x=0

If you take y=2, x can be any number.
eg. y=2, x=1
3(1)(2)- 6(1) =0
y=2, x=3
3(3)(2) -6(3) =0

1 - is sufficient as whatever is the value of y other than 0 , x will not be 0

2 - is inconclusive as explained by ishat16189.

Ans should be A

I also think that the answer should be A

A. 5x-y/y=0

5x-y=0
5x = y

thus x can't be 0

B. 3xy-6x=0
3x(y-2)=0

Now either if x =0 then the equation will be equal to 0 or if y=2 then also the equation will be equal to 0, in this scenario x can take infinite values.

therefore the answer should be A

Hello! If the statements are reversed, I mean:

1) 3xy-6x=0
2) 5x-y/y=0

The answer is still "A"?
A Statement (1) ALONE is sufficient, but statement (2) alone is not sufficient

Well, then the answer would be B i.e. Statement 2 is sufficient alone but statement 1 is not.

For stmnt 1, y = 5x and since y is not equal to 0, so x will also be a non-zero number. sufficient.
Stmnt 2 says, 3x(y-2) = 0 and here two cases is possible, either 3x = 0 or y-2 = 0 or both can be equal to 0. When y =2, it is not necessary that x has to be 0. But we don't know the value of y, so cannot ascertain the value of x too. insufficient.
