Case 1: if x-6 >= 0 i.e x >= 6
then x- 6 = 3
x = 9
Case 2: if x-6 < 0 i.e x < 6
then, -( x - 6) = 3
- x + 6 = 3
-x = -3
x = 3

Since there are 2 possible values of x i.e 9 and 3, Statement 1 alone is insufficient to get a definite value of x.

(2) |x| = 3
Here also, there are 2 possible values of x i.e 3 and -3
So, Statement 2 alone is insufficient .

If you combine Statement 1 and 2 , we can get a definite value of x i.e 3.
So option C is the right answer.
