Is the perimeter of a rectangular yard greater than 60 meters?
Let L be the length and B be the breadth of the rectangle.
We are asked is 2(L+B)>60 ?
i.e., is L+B>30?
(1) The two shorter sides of the yard are each 15 meters long.
--> We know that the yard is rectangular in shape and square is special type of rectangle that has all sides equal in length.
As per statement (1) we have shorter side = 15m, which implies the longer side is greater than 15m.
Hence, shorter side + longer side > 30m.
Statement 1 alone is sufficient.
(2) The length of the yard is 3 meters longer than the width of the yard.
--> We can have multiple values of L and B satisfy this statement. e.g.,
L=1, B=4. Which gives answer to the question statement as No.
L=30, B=34.Which gives answer to the question statement as Yes.
Statement 2 alone is not sufficient.
Answer: A
