Need help with verbal/english (Books)

Question

I am Marketing and Finance major with poor verbal and english skills. In addition I am quiet and do not like to talk. In as a business student my teachers recognize I am very adminastrative. I have a problem explain things cleary and I use grammar incorrectly.

What I am asking is there any books you recommened that will improve my speaking, grammar usage, and writing skills.

It might be fairly hard to suggest a single book to cover all the needs. Just to give you an idea, check out this link:

I understand that isn't a book that covers all I requested. But I will accept a list of books and then I will skim through them if they are at my local library.

You can't really improve speaking (active skill) with books. Listening and reading are passive. You need to practice speaking to yourself, friends, your bathroom mirror to improve. Perhaps you can enroll in an English club/group where you are located.

For grammar, look at the Powerscore SC book or the Manhattan GMAT SC Book - both are equally good. You can also use many of the TOEFL Books as those may be more appropriate for building fundamental skills rather than focusing here and there as GMAT books tend to. I found TOEFL material to be the best place to start for those weak with grammar

You just need to write - that's the only way to learn. There are books that teach essay writing and formal writing.

One option that may help with most of these is what Dzyubam suggested - reading good quality fiction books that will improve your vocabulary, understanding, grammar, and style - see this link: GMAT Fiction

I honestly think reading a vast amount of material every day is the best preparation for the verbal. I'm talking reading dense publications like The Economist or Scientific America... stuff like that that forces you to read closely in order to understand the author's point.

You can get access to the economist free online, though I think ordering it in newsprint makes it more convenient to carry along. It's a bit expensive though
