There are many benefits to timing your practice, including:
It sounds like you took that test too early. Diagnostic tests, without initial preparation, are confidence killers. Maybe you should start with the OG, do the easier questions first without timing, take the time to understand the explanations even for those questions you anwered correctly. After building up some confidence, take another timed CAT test. You should see a significant improvement.
Edit: if I may use a bad analogy (not about cars though!), it is like learning to play the guitar. First you learn the basic chords and some simple tunes. You learn to play them properly and without errors. Only then you can start trying to play fast.
