Hi all,
I've been debating a career move for a few years now and at this point I feel ready to take my chances with an MBA. The only downside for waiting so long is that I am 35 yrs old. Here are my stats:
- GMAT 680 but could easily push it up to 720-740 if necessary
- undergrad in Accounting and Finance with a 3.97 GPA from a mid range US school
- 4 years of experience w/ KPMG in the US (int'l tax)
- 1 year of experience with a big internet company in the US (int'l tax)
- CPA
- CFA level I
- fluent in 4 languages
The million dollar question - is it too late to go for an MBA being 35? Should I pick a 1 year program since I have accounting and finance background? What are my chances of being successful on the job market in the UK or Canada?

Depends on what you were wanting to switch to - the schools would likely be eager that at 35 (possibly 37/38 at graduation) you wouldn't be straying to far from where your experience currently lies.
LBS INSEAD etc have students attaending up to the ages of 38 so you're not too late but you need to think about the story you tell as to why you need the mba and how it will help you. WIth those credentials and experience I cant see why you wouldn't be successful in London - especially with the languages.
The 1 vs 2 year question is a toughie - you may want the extra time to truly assess what your next step is but then again its more 'costly' for you being out of the work force for longer than a younder candidate.
I'd say its not the qualification you're after given your experience and background but more the softer side of stuff, opportunities and networks etc - thus a 2 year program may be useful?

Hey there,
Not sure if you have already found a good business program, but if you are determined to work in the country where you study, then I would say definitely come to Canada. Doing a two year program will get you a 2 or 3 years work visa automatically after graduation (Cannot recall the exact number...either 2 or 3 thats for sure), so you don't need to worry about not having a job the week after your convocation and be deported in a month. I also think the Canadians schools are a bit more well known to the American companies in case after a while you decide to move back. In UK, the fees are.....not very forgiving, and the work visa is a lot harder to obtain from what I gathered.
In terms of job markets.....an easy indicator is the unemployment rates, and I think both countries are doing very poorly compared to the American one, so maybe it is better to do one in the states for yourself?
