I gave my GMAT test today in India. I scored 750 (Q50 V40).
Key learning and Takeaways
* Do NOT worry about the difficulty level of questions AT ALL
* You only need a good disciplined timing strategy that you must stick to during the exam
* The cooler you are, the easier the exam gets
* Do not underestimate the positives of a good night sleep and a nice meal before the exam
* Forget everything and just stick to OG, GmatPrep questions, Manhattan SC guide.
* Do not be in a hurry at the GMAT. Take your time to settle in the first 10-15 minutes. Do questions slowly but confidently.
* HIDE the clock. It is evil. Do not look at it more than 3 times per section.
* I cannot stress it enough. GMAT is only about keeping both time and nerve. Do NOT worry too much about keeping time. If you are proceeding confidently you will automatically speed up in the second half of the test!
* You can easily score 4-5 more questions correctly if you don't fall for the traps that GMAC sets up for people who don't anticipate them
* Hail Ron Purewal, Stacey Koprince - ManhattanGMAT is doing a service to GMAT community by means of their forum.
Highlights
* A decent score as per expectation
Lowlights
* Timing - I finished quantitative section 20 minutes in advance and the verbal section 10 minutes in advance
Things that surprised me
* The difficulty level of the real GMAT is easier than GMAT prep problems. This generalization applies to all quantitative and verbal sections.
* There is enough time to finish all the questions
* It is really OK to guess a couple of questions and move on. GMAC doesn't penalize you for every question that it throws at you.
* The questions were not difficult. Just tricky. GMAT will introduce little twists that are easy to glance over. Just read carefully.
* Unlike GMAT Prep problems - hardly any ambiguous questions (but there were a couple - make the best guess and move on)
My study material
* I took a lot of tests - 6 MGMAT's (710, 730, 710, 740, 750, 770), GMAT Prep v1 and v2 (740, 750, 760, 760), Knewton free test (760), Kaplan's free test, 4 Princeton Review tests (don't remember scores but it was in the range of 710-750)
* Manhattan's SC guide only
* Powerscore CR bible (read it really long back)
* OG 12
* OG Verbal review
* Manhattan forums are worth their weight in gold
* GMAT Prep SC collection (I got its link from this forum - do a search) - MUST - look up solutions on manhattan forums. Nothing will benefit your score more than this exercise.
Rest it noise.
