I started my preparation in the last week of the August 2013. I gave my GMAT exam couple of days ago and got an abysmal 630 (Q 49, V27). I finished OG 13, Manhattan SC, all 7 Manhattan CATs, 2 GMAT preps. Provided below is the glimpse of my performances in the Mocks:
GMAT prep1 : 630 (Q49, V27)
MAT 1 : 650 (Q41, V38)
MAT 2: 640 (Q43, V34)
MAT 3: 670 (Q45, V36)
MAT 4: 580 (Q40, V31)
MAT 5: 620 (Q37, V37)
MAT 6: 710 (Q48, V38)
GMAT Prep 2: 700 (Q49, V36)
GMAT Exam pack 1: 700 (Q49, V36)
Since i could not increase my score beyond 38 in verbal , i focused on practicing Quant as much as possible to hit around (50-51) in last few days before the exam. I was hoping (Q50, V38) will provide me a good score of 730. Also on the exam day (morning slot), i woke up early and gave one incomplete mock by practicing Quant section only before leaving for the exam. to keep my mind in that frame work before the exam. Before the exam i was feeling bit sleepy, but it didn't effect much as i did very good in Quant, for almost every question i knew how to solve it, except 2-3 odd questions (probably there were some silly mistakes also as i was expecting the Quant score to be 50-51). I took the break and when i started the verbal section, i felt difficulty in understanding every question. I could not understand any sentence at the first go. It was all gibberish to me as if it is written in some font i cant comprehend. As a result i was guessing (i cant believe it) in almost every SC and CR question. Further, adding to my woes, i could not understand a long RC passage even reading it twice (never happened in any of my mocks), as a result i guessed again on all 4 questions corresponding to the passage. I had to rush through lot of questions as i was running behind time (Again never happened in my Mocks as i always used time table to keep track of my pace). I don't know what happened, probably the screen was large as i was not able to read the sentences. In my Mocks i was doing very well in CR and RC, but i was struggling in SC.
I am thinking of retaking the GMAT in next one month. Can you please some strategies as to how to go about it. I am also thinking of subscribing e-gmat
Suggestions are very much appreciated.
