04/04/16 690 (Q48, V35, IR8) - CANCELLED
Two weeks before this exam, I scored a 740 (Q49, V42) on GMATPrep (simulated real test-like conditions). Unfortunately, I kind of got screwed during the real exam. The new employee at the test center messed up my Verbal section (I lost 6 minutes due to his incompetence which caused my computer to freeze, but only 4 minutes were added back to my Verbal section). I was super stressed and frustrated and couldn't focus on Verbal, and ended up with a 690 (Q48, V35 - this is one of the lowest Verbal scores I got). I filed an incident report with Pearson VUE asking for a free retake. Eventually (thanks to Jeremy aka "OfficialGMAT" user on this forum), I got $200 off my retake (I already paid for my 2nd retake the full $250, so this $200 off will apply to my 3rd retake).
04/22/16 700 (Q44, V41, IR8) - ACCEPTED
One week before this exam, I scored a 730 (Q49, V41) on GMATPrep (also simulated test-like conditions, and actually only took 4 minute breaks). However on the actual exam, I scored a 700 (Q44, V41, IR 8). I am not sure how I screwed up quant this time. Although it could be because I rushed through the section and had around 8 minutes left at the end (I completed the first half of the quant section in 20-25 minutes and forced myself to slow down for the second half and still had time left over). So here I am today only with a 10 point improvement from my last test on April 4th. I was really expecting a Q48-49 because I have been scoring in that range consistently on GMATPrep.
05/10/16 - 3rd ATTEMPT:
As I've mentioned, I am getting $200 off this retake (see 1st exam story). I'm planning on retaking the exam on May 10th (around 18 days after 2nd attempt). My plan is to ONLY redo the Question Pack 1 questions (as I have already gone through both the OG and the OG Quant/Verbal reviews for my 2nd retake).
Please help me out with a strategy for the 3rd attempt - mostly, I need to keep my Verbal at around V41-42, and get my quant back up to Q48-49.

Hi Rich,
Prep for my 1st Attempt on 04/04/2016:
- - I started studying on January 1st, 2016. Since then, I have taken a 9-week Manhattan Live class with Ron Purewal in San Jose.
- Mostly studied 2 hours in the morning and 2 hours in the evening.
- Reviewed all of the Manhattan Study guides. Also, started the Powerscore CR Bible, but did not finish the last few chapters.
- Did the latest OG the first time following the MGMAT syllabus, and finished around 70-80% of the OG questions untimed in order to cement the concepts learned in the MGMAT study guides.
- Did the latest OG the second time (did all of the questions this time around), and also timed myself allotting 2-2.5 minutes tops per question, if I couldn't get an answer in the allotted time, I would guess and move on. Had around 85-90% accuracy across all sections. Reviewed both correct and incorrect answers carefully.
- Did all of the questions in OG Quant and OG Verbal reviews timed. I felt like the questions in these two books were a little easier than the ones in the OG. My accuracy was around 90% here. Reviewed both correct and incorrect answers carefully. At this stage, the concepts tested as well as the strategy to answer questions across all sections have become much more clear.
- Purchased and have gone through the GMATPrep Question Pack 1. Did sets of 18 for quant - 9 PS and 9 DS questions spread evenly across difficulty levels. Then did sets of 12 for CR/SC - 6 CR and 6 SC spread evenly across difficulty levels. For RC, I did 1 passage at a time. All in all, I ended up doing 18 Quant and 17-18 Verbal questions per study session. Reviewed both correct and incorrect answers
- 2 weeks before my 1st attempt, scored 740 Q49, V42 on GMATPrep 3.
Prep for my 2nd Attempt on 04/22/2016:
- - Redid the OG as well as partially redid the OG Quant/Verbal Reviews. Timed myself for every question and averaged less than 2 minutes.
- Studied 2 hours in the mornings and 2 hours in the evenings the 1st week. Then only studied for 2 hours in the mornings during the last week before the exam.
- 1 week before my 2nd attempt, retook GMATPrep 1 and scored 730 Q49, V41 (originally took it on 2/28/2016 and got 640 Q38, V40).
Prep for my 3rd Attempt on 05/10/2016:
- - As I've mentioned, I'm planning on just redoing the Question Pack 1.
- I will study only in the mornings for about 2-2.5 hours since my test is scheduled for 8am on May 10th.
- I will do around 15 Quant and 15 Verbal questions from the Question Pack 1 every day until test day.
- I'm not planning on retaking any CATs.
