Hi milly800,

With a September 10th Test Date, you have almost 3 months of potential study time, which is good. Since you don't appear to be 'locked into' applying to Business School this year, you also have the flexibility to apply later on, which frees you up to focus on locking in a strong GMAT score. Considering those details, you can study as you like - this really comes down to how YOU best study. Many Test Takers need 3 months of consistent, guided study to hit their score goals, so you could start off by self-studying (and we can see what happens) or you can invest in a GMAT Course of some type (either Guided Self-Study or instructor-led). At this point in the process, you don't have to make any big decisions, so you might consider studying at you see fit for the next 1-2 weeks, then take a new FULL-LENGTH CAT. That score result will give us some idea about whether your study plan will 'work' for you or not.

If you have any additional questions, then you can feel free to contact me directly.

Hi Milly800,

Given that you studied very little for your first GMAT and still scored a 610, I think that a 730+ GMAT score is very attainable as long as you are motivated and ready to put in some hard work.

Without knowing much more about your daily routine, I suggest studying at least 2 hours each weekday and 4+ hours each weekend day. Here’s an article I wrote that provides some effective strategies on how to find study time with a busy schedule: how to find time to study when working a demanding job.

When studying, you should hold off on doing any more practice exams or random problem sets from the OG until you have sufficiently learned a good portion material. That way, when you do start taking practice exams, you can use the results of those exams to track your progress. I also recommend taking the practice exams from MBA.com; those exams provide the most accurate exam experience and use the most accurate scoring algorithm. You can start by taking the two free exams. After that you can purchase exam pack 1 and exam pack 2

Also - here are two more helpful articles.

This one provides advice and tips on how to score 700+ on the GMAT.

This one provides insight into how to plan out your GMAT study into three critical phases.

Thank you so much for your suggestions!

So I got back my report (full version) and my IR was 7 and AWA was 6.0. I'm actually kind of excited about my AWA score :)

Does this mean I only have to focus on Q/V next time?

How should I really crack down on each section?

Thank you so much again and thank you in advance for your answers!
