Hi everyone,
I took the GMAT today and scored a 750, including an 8 on IR. I was really pleased with the overall score, but my split was a bit weaker. I scored 45 (99%) on verbal but 48 (71%) on quant.
First, I am a bit confused about the quant percentile. I was scoring 48 in my official practice tests which was translating to 78 percentile, and I have seen others post here with 48 scaled quant scores who said it is in the low 80%. Should I pay more attention to the scaled score or the percentile?
I would really appreciate advice on whether or not I should retake the exam. I studied about 2.5 months, but only on weekends due to constraints of my job. On one hand, I have heard that schools look for closer to 80% in quant, but on the other, I don't want to seem like a perfectionist retaking the exam with a 750. I am looking to apply to top 10 business schools.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks in advance for your help!

Congrats! 750 is a fantastic score. In your situation, we wouldn't worry about retaking the test for a higher quant score. There is no guarantee that you will score higher.
Just keep in context your overall application profile. You may not be the candidate who stands out with a 750+ score, but if you feel confident you can stand out in another way -- your background, your story, your career path -- then this should be a good-enough score for the target schools you want.
If you have a clear story/path/reason for business school and can differentiate yourself based on your work experience, then you got a lot going for you.
Remember, optimize for your overall application profile - not just one local maxima.

First off, a 750/Q48 is an outstanding score (it's right around the 99th percentile overall), so you can comfortably apply to any Business Schools that interest you. As such, a retest is not necessary. Since you've mentioned how you plan to apply to some highly-ranked Schools, you would likely find it beneficial to speak with an Admissions Expert about your overall profile. There's a Forum full of them here:
