Background :
I am a male non-IT engineer from India with 7 years of experience in Energy Sector.
GMAT 1st Attempt : Q 49 / V 17 ----> 550 August 2013
GMAT 2nd Attempt : Q 50 / V 25 ---> 640 December 2015
GMAT 3rd Attempt : Q 51 / V 32 ---> 700 August 2016
Materials Used for 3rd time preparation ( 2 Months of preparation / 4 hours daily )
Quant Material : As I was pretty good in Quant, I just used 35 % of total study time for practice from
GMAT Club Tests (Quant ). For the last 20 days, I gave a Quant sectional test every day and analyzed it thoroughly. By doing this you will have a good grip on the traps that a 700-800 level question has. I think Q 49 or Q 50 is easy to attain but Q 51 is very rare( only 3% of GMAT test takers get ). So to get a Q 51 a different mindset is required and a lot of practice. I would also like to share some credit for Q 51 to TOP ONE PERCENT GMAT QUANT 700-800 LEVEL Question Collection.
Verbal Material :
Sentence Correction - E-GMAT SC.....E-GMAT SC.......E-GMAT SC. This is the most comprehensive and best course available till date in this world ( I can bet on it ), and also scholoranium platform hones the skills to get a good grip on SC problems. As a non-native, I struggled a lot in SC and after reading all the rules and memorizing them, I was not able to apply those on actuial questions. Then E-GMAT SC happened to me. Guys I am not advertising E-GMAT but you can see the difference when you see the free videos available on their website.
Reading Comprehension - TOP ONE PERCENT "O C T A V E : Opinion / Contrast Word / Tone / Avoid / Verify / Eliminate " Rule was just like mathematics. This rule works like solving a Qunat Problem. Pure Logic and you are done with the most difficult passages. I would also like to share some credit with E-GMAT also.
Critical Reasoning - E-GMAT CR & CR BIBLE are the two that I used. E-GMAT CR per-thinking strategy helped me a lot.
Though my Verbal Score was not up-to my expectation ( as in Mocks I was hitting 35-37 ), then also I would like to recommend the above study materials a must for anyone who are trying to achieve a 700+ score in GMAT.
The most important part of the GMAT journey is self belief and discipline, otherwise the test will take a toll on you. So my friend who are on the same boat that I was on yesterday, have patience, keep practicing in an effective manner and have self belief. Also I would like to mention that GMAT is not a conventional type of test, it is a test of higher order reasoning skills, so not only devotion towards study is important but also from where you are studying and what approach you are using to solve question is also important, and I think, it is the later one that is the deciding factor for a 700 + score.
This journey was demanding ( more than wife ), draining, and, at last when you achieve your score, fun.
It took me 3 years ( though not continuously ) to get to descent score(I think!).......so don't lose hope......remember: hard work always pays, a proven fact for me from today !
