Hi All,
Has anyone here ever had a 45 min break in GMAT ? - I experienced it today and it was overwhelming to say the least (an not in a good way) !
Surprised and a little confused by what I am saying ?
Here is my experience today while giving my GMAT in the afternoon (12:30) session in one of the
best reviewed Test centers in Delhi-NCR.
I had booked my preferred time slot in the best reviewed center in NCR for GMAT.
I had done my research and knew the importance of a comfortable test-taking center. I had ensured I don't face any surprises on my D-day !
I WISH I WAS PREPARED FOR WORSE !
My experience while giving GMAT today was nothing less than stressful and horrendous.
I and other 3 candidates along with me were in between our second sections (almost 20 mins into the quant section) , when the internet from all computers suddenly went off and the exam paused in between. This instance took place a few minutes before 2:15 pm and continued on for more than 45 mins till 3:00 pm.
The instructor informed us that if it's not back in an hour-we'll be asked to reschedule our exams. At first this was appalling. I had so many questions going on in my mind.
What if my Verbal went really well? How will I take some time off from my work ? How can I retake so close to the deadlines ? What if the next day's deadline is not available?
By the end of half hour, I was prepared for come what may.
The instructor even left all of us on our own to go out and check the issue. We were completely left alone to chat in the room. He came back only to inform it will take another half hour.
By now, I was talked my mind into believing that whatever happens - happens for good. I also had a small voice in my head telling me my Verbal didn't go as good as expected. So now, I and the others were basically waiting for the hour to be over so we could go back and reschedule.
But again, the computers were up and the Test started in less than 5 mins remaining for the hour to get over.
By this time I was just pissed with god, GMAT, the instructor, the internet generation and Life in General...
All in all, my first GMAT experience was really bad and I had to finally cancel my scores.
And even though I know I can't attribute my low scores directly to this incident, but such an incident takes a mental toll on already stressed test takers.
On speaking with one of the other candidates, I realized that this was happening for the second time with her. I was perplexed to learn, that, what seemed like a really weird turn of events was actually something that a lot of candidates are facing on the regular.
I mean what was the probability for a candidate to face this scenario twice in her GMAT life ?
I have written a mail to GMAC - hoping for a positive response.
More than any refund - this is to bring it to their notice and help make other test-takers aware of such scenarios.
PS: I read this article about a similar experience here on GMAT club (can't find the link) of a mumbai candidate who faced a power cut for about an hour and a half while his test was still continuing, about a week before my date, and thought to myself, what a poor guy.
Hey but this rare... no ?
