Hi All,
Just took the exam for the second time in 17 days (minimum time allowed) and my score increased from 660 to 760 (Q49/V46/IR8). The main reason I am writing post is to stress how important the timing of the exam and mental preparation were for me. I have never been a morning person but for some stupid reason I decided to take my first exam at 8.00am on a Thursday. I was in a trance for the first two hours of the exam and couldn't wake myself up. I don't remember what my verbal and quant scores were because I just cancelled the scores and left the exam center in a daze. I had initially been hoping for high 700's given that I got 770 on the exam I took the day before but I couldn't understand what went wrong.
By 1.00pm that day I felt so much sharper and I wanted to take the test again straight away. At the time I was disappointed that I could only sit the exam once every 16 days but this definitely worked out in my favor in hindsight given that I had no break in over a month and was mentally drained. I booked another exam that night as early as I possibly could for 3.00pm on a Saturday. I then went on vacation for the next 10 days and didn't look at a GMAT book or question. When I came back, I felt much more relaxed and, even after a few more days of study, by exam day I wasn't physically tired or mentally fatigued. I expected the score would increase somewhat but it’s hard to believe the difference the right planning made.
In summary:
Don't take the exam in the morning if you are not a morning person!! I will also add: Don't take the exam on a weekday if being late to work will stress you out during the exam. I was disappointed with my first result but tried not to let it get to me. Don't let something you can plan for be the reason that you don't perform to the best of your ability on exam day.

For anyone wondering I took no prep courses (just some exams from the prep providers). I self-studied the official guides and Kaplan 800 book, and relied heavily on GMAT club for detailed explanations. This is my first post on GMAT Club but I am incredibly grateful to all of the experts and contributors here!
It was a long 2 months of studying 3+ hours most days but I hope my score will get me where I want to go and that it will have been worth it in the end!
Hope this post helps!
