What if I need my cellular (mobile) phone at the test center?
You may not bring your cellular (mobile) phone into the testing room, nor may you check or use your phone during breaks. You may store your phone in a locker during your test, but the test administrator is not responsible for lost or stolen items. If you do access your cell phone at any time during your exam time, your exam will be cancelled and your exam fee will be forfeited.

If there is an emergency, you may ask the test administrator to use the test center’s telephone during breaks.

and from the handbook
Access to telephones, cellular (mobile) phones, other communication devices, watches, books, notes, or study guides will not be permitted at the test center at any time, including during the test session or during breaks. Violation of this policy could lead to confiscation of the prohibited devices or materials by the test administrator or invalidation of your scores.

I suppose a strict interpretation of the handbook means the admin was correct.

While waiting for my exam to start at Noida centre (NCR), I kept my stuff inside the locker. After keeping my stuff inside the locker and going through all the process, I realized that I forgot to keep my mobile phone inside the locker. I thought since the exam has not even started yet, lets just switch it off and keep it inside (no biggie!). As soon as I pulled my phone out of the pocket without even pressing any button, the admin started yelling- why do you have your phone? did you not read your instructions?. I apologized, switched my phone off and kept it inside the locker. I again waited for almost 15 mins and got to know that my exam is cancelled.

I asked the admin why? he claimed I was using it for 'a few minutes' which is completely false claim and must also be reported to the GMAC. I told him I was just switching my phone off and he said you cannot even 'touch your phone' when you are inside the center. I was confused and asked him how can someone keep the phone inside the locker without even touching it? He told me to go and wait outside.

I got kicked out for something before my exam even started and I do not understand how else could I have kept it inside the locker. Appealed this with GMAC and anxiously waiting for their response.
What happened is unfortunate, but Pearson is unlikely to make an exception in this case. You might have to book another appointment if you need to take the exam soon.
