After a second 690 at the GMAT, I would've been scared off, but this wasn't going to be a regular journey. Undeterred by the disappointment of not reaching my target score, I researched various Verbal courses online. Based on the plethora of positive reviews on e-GMAT, I decided to reach out to them. I connected with Sandeep from the e-GMAT team, who took me through the verbal curriculum and briefed me about the Skill Dashboard. I realized the importance of the data tracked on their portal and the analytics it could provide on my weak areas of preparation. I enrolled myself in the full course.
Upon taking the diagnostic test and scoring a 750 in it, I could have skipped the learning phase and jumped right into solving quizzes, however, I observed that the 3 stage learning process could help me solidify my gaps thoroughly and result in a more consistent high score in the tests.
I started with Master Comprehension, which is a course designed to comprehend complex sentences by breaking them into smaller chunks. A few days into the course, I was connected to my mentor DJ, who soon became a pivotal part of my 750-journey. He gave me useful resources on how to take notes and how to perform a strategic review for important questions. We proceeded with weekly milestones and upon cementing my SC ability with Stage II, I repeated the same steps for CR and RC. It took me 2 months to finish Verbal, however, sticking to the habit of studying was made easier because of the weekly plans that I made with DJ, and the performance tracking on the Dashboard.
I moved to Quant where I took advantage of the 'diagnostic tests' to focus only on my weak areas.
5 months down the line, I had solid data on my portal reflecting my ability in both quant and verbal to score a 740+, which was the target score I had set on their portal.
Towards my 4th mock, I had realized that due to personal reasons I was not able to revise as often as I would have liked to and I faltered in it and scored a 640. I reached out to my mentor who noticed that I need a booster to get back my already-acquired skills and gave me a last-mile plan. The last mile plan was tailored for my weak areas, which was mainly my SC ability.
I diligently followed the plan and noticed an immediate boost in my SC accuracy.
3 days before the exam day I was feeling very confident about my preparation because I could notice the data on the dashboard reflecting my ability.
In hindsight, what worked for my GMAT 750 was diligent preparation for 6 months, along with strategic reviews and note-taking.
Kudos to e-GMAT team for designing a wonderful and highly structured program. It was fun to work with DJ!
