Hi. I need your advice regarding my situation. Ive simulated 700s and 690s but I when I took the gmat I got a 600. What can I do?

Additional information:

1. My simulations where: 48Q and 37V
2. My exam result was 44Q and 29V


Any advice is well appreciated.

Hi Juliospej.

We could use some more information, such as the following:

- How many practice tests have you taken?

- What practice tests did you use?

- Did you take the practice tests as you would take the actual GMAT, without pauses or extra breaks, etc.?

- For how long have you been preparing for the GMAT?

- How have you prepared for the GMAT?

Also, you may get some useful insights regarding why your GMAT score was lower than your practice test scores from this post.

Hi Marty! Thank you for your response:

1. Ive taken over 6 practice exams: 540, 560, 580, 580, 690 and 700
2. 5/6 exams where oficial exams (includes the 690 and 700) and 1 from Manhattan Prep
3. Yes I did. I used my 8 minute breaks just to go to the bathroom. Didn't touch a phone or an electronic device.
4. My prep started on November 2021: Ive used: Bloomberg Prep and TTP. Also I've had 1to1 classes in Quant and Verbal.

For Verbal, consider working on your solving approach. May sound strange but it's a lot of what I actually do when tutoring verbal students whether they are native English speakers or not. May boost your score a bit.

2. My exam result was 44Q and 29V

Here's someone I tutored before who had gotten an Official Verbal score around that mark (V31). We did a few sessions and they retook for a V40. May be some helpful tips in their post you can leverage.

Hi Juliospej,

I'm sorry to hear that Test Day didn't go as well as planned. When these types of score drops occur, the two likely "causes" involve either something that was unrealistic during practice or something that was surprising (or not accounted for) on Test Day. Before we discuss any of those potential issues though, it would help if you could provide a bit more information on how you've been studying and your goals:

Studies:
1) How many hours did you typically study each week?
2) What “brands” of CATs/mocks have you used?
3) On what dates (or approximate dates) did you take EACH of your CATs/mocks and how did you score on EACH (including the Quant and Verbal Scaled Scores for EACH)?

Goals:
4) What is your overall goal score?
5) When are you planning to apply to Business School and what Schools are you planning to apply to?

If you took your Official GMAT at a Test Center, then you might also choose to purchase the Enhanced Score Report. While the ESR doesn’t provide a lot of information, there are usually a few data points that we can use to define what went wrong on Test Day (and what you should work on to score higher). If you purchase the ESR, then I'll be happy to analyze it for you.
