Hello everyone,
I hope your study sessions are going well.
I’m writing my first post tonight because of an email I received yesterday regarding my recent GMAT Focus (Online) exam.
I looked through the forum to see if anyone had experienced a similar situation, but apart from people with very high scores (+700), I haven’t found anyone with a "mid" score like mine (605).
To be honest, I understand the reason behind this review. During the first part of my exam (Verbal part), my internet connection crashed. I believe it was an issue with the network card on my computer, but regardless, the result was the same: I got disconnected during the exam.
I immediately received a message saying the exam was paused and that I needed to contact my proctor, which I did, but she didn’t respond right away. I had to sit and wait for about 5 minutes before finally hearing back from her (when my connection came back, I was automatically reconnected to GoTo). The proctor asked me to share my screen and webcam again, but I couldn’t do so because I was stuck on the exam page, which had locked my computer. I couldn’t exit the screen.
She instructed me to restart my computer, which took a few minutes. Then, I had to contact MBAcom support to get the code for the GoTo meeting, which took another 5 minutes. All of this resulted in a stressful break of over 15 minutes.
When I finally rejoined the GoTo meeting, I followed her instructions—showing my desk, room, etc.—and was able to resume my exam.
I’m sharing all of this to ask if anyone has heard of a similar situation and how it turned out. Is there a significant chance that my result will be canceled? (Honestly, that wouldn’t be dramatic given my low score and my goal of achieving a much higher one, but I’m mostly worried about being flagged for cheating and possibly banned from taking the exam again, which would be far more concerning.)
Of course, I didn’t cheat during the incident. I stayed in my seat the entire time and showed the proctor that nothing had moved, including my phone, which was still in the same spot across the room.
In any case, I’m extremely stressed about the situation, and the thought of waiting up to 20 days for a response is making me even more anxious. In the meantime, I’ll continue studying and hope I’m not banned from retaking the test.
Thank you for reading, and thank you in advance for any advice or insights you can share.
Wishing you all a great day or evening!
Alex
