The MGMAT SC is the best verbal book I've come across. It's worth it's weight in gold

Tangaro,

Yep, it's different, I made the same mistake myself (funny how they named their company something very similar to MGMAT lol)! I didn't get the MGMAT SC book (I only have Word Translations b/c SC is my strongest area), but everyone speaks very highly of it. I know my MGMAT Word Trans book is amazing so far though!

I would say its worth the money. You also get 6 or 7 CAT along with any Manhattan prep books and that help you to focus for 3+ hours and timing.

FYI, I love the Comb/Perm technique taught by MGMAT (using anagrams). Makes it much easier to do Comb/Perm questions without having to memorize formulas.

That book is a real gold mine. In the begining I didn't understand what is so special about MGMAT SC, I had perception that it is just another grammar book and that is that. After my first, albeit not very thorough reading of that book, I thought of it as a good book but didn't understand why anyone should call it Bible. After that I have been using some old TOEFL books such as Barron's and Cambridge and, after each subject, used to come back to MGMAT SC. That was the moment I realized the true strenght of that book. It has so many layers that you simply cannot skim it in few days. Each new reading of that book uncovers one new layer of wisdom that is burried somewhere inside the text.
Even if it would be an overestimate I beleive that MGMAT SC is by far the best instruction guide that is available in the market at present. Of course, that is not the case just for their SC guide. Other guides are also useful, especially because of scientifical approach that this company have. What I like about them is that they don't try to show you all the tricks they know, instead they dig into methods and procedures, trying to find as many ways for solving the same type of problem as possible.

Uhhh, that previous post of mine IS a wild overstatement, indeed. Huh, I admit to using some weird phrases such as "wisodm burried under the layers of something..." but I really like that book.
Nevertheless, I am not so enthusiastic about all their books. In one of my previous posts I wrote that one shouldn't buy MGMAT RC and CR books because I beleive that studying them can cause more damage than benefit. I beleive that one should study CR and RC exclusively from the OG which is just what I am doing right now.

Yes MGMAT SC is a def worth its weight in gold. It is by far the best SC book out there.

However, I do want to state that the MGMAT book in no way gurantees 90-100% accuracy on SC's. The book is very good, but does not cover every little aspect you will see on the exam. I believe this book is essential, but unless you are already amazing at grammer, you are going to need more than this book to get a 700+ on the GMAT.

For one thing the book fails to mention anything on elipsis. I didn't even know what a gerund was until I read through the Kaplan blue pocket book.

The Kaplan book is not amazing, but it does cover a few little extras that you won't see in the MGMAT book. I've not ventured to Man. Review, Veritas, or PR.

Again this book is essential and anyone serious must have it. But I just don't think it the magic bullet for 90-100% SC accuracy.
