I agree if you think your score makes you a strong candidate for your dream school there is no need to re-take GMAT. If you are confident that your low verbal score is not because of lack of preparation or have application deadline sure take it right away. If not I would suggest to work hard and take it when you are ready.
Time is best spent spending time with family/ prep for essays or just getting life back. As for school comparison it all depends on what you want. I would suggest you go through the schools review on this forum. They are organized as clusters and give good information.
