Good thinking guys. This discussion is triggering 760-itch for me.
But I believe if I cant make it with 730...i cannot get it with 760. I could be wrong....any thoughts?

i think with a 50 40, what you got right? that i would not take again.

but it cant hurt to on the side maybe start studying verbal. specifically the sentence correction. jus tsee where it takes you.

I need to get back on the studying horse ... I have been off for a full 2 weeks now.

With a 47/40 ... I too believe that the big gains available are in Verbal ... might be able to push math to 49 tops. So aiming for a 48/44 split ... which hopefully gets me closer to the hallowed 760 ground

Concur. It won't be your GMAT that keeps you out. You might want to try it if you think you can get to 770/780. Otherwise, don't bother with the extra effort/headache etc. Just start researching schools and drafting your why mba essay.

Picture this:

Adcom, "Man, this kyatin kid looks good on paper. His work exp is a little light (just randomly picking a component). Only if his gmat was a 760, I can overlook this weakness and extend an interview. But I just can't do it."

I agree. Thats what I feel too. I already know my profile is not too strong...but I am just not sure I can make up for it with 99 percentile. perhaps I will never know unless I get dinged and then with 760 get in. Each individual is so unique so patterns can be useful only to some extent to find out what 760 can do...but I cannot be certain about 760 doing the trick.

That said, I am right now in one hell of a situation. Its been about 2 weeks since I got done with GMAT....last 2 weeks I started researching...what I can shoot for...where do I stand in competition...let me say this....its not been good time....I am Male/Indian/IT guy and my bigger problem is first researching what my real career goals are. What different types of MBA streams are possible and where I see myself fit. Its not easy and worst thing is you have to answer these for yourself.

If you guys know any good reference material while deciding what are possibilities, any book etc.. then please let me know. I am still holding on to joining BSchool forum but will soon seek some help there.

You're done with the GMAT. It's time for you to "graduate" down to the lower forums. You'll get much more help there.

so you wanna go from say a 710 to 750+? 710 is pretty average for all schools so if you can get into their top 20% without much effort, why not. Just make sure that you other categories of WE, EC are not below average.

tyring to compensate for low gpa, and poor grades in math (early on). want to eliminate any question as to whether i am accademically capable.

im not doing this is at the cost of taking time away from extracurriculars, etc.

again, im not suggesting retaking at 710 is right for everyone. for me, im doing it cause my grades aren't great, and im pretty sure i can score significantly, 730+, higher.

its more of a side project, then it is a focus of mine.

i dont want anyone to think i dont think a 710 is adequate. or someont who scores 700 has a poor score. by no means do i. each individual is unique in their profile. i just feel i could use a little higher score. thats all.
