hello all,
i am a long time reader of this forum and I usually read this exp topics to get a feel for the test. Some of the topics had great info and I hope i can give someting back from my gmat exp. I took the test on 7/13.
The night before the test I just simply couldn't get any sleep. I must have slept for about two or three hrs at the most. I remember someone mentioned the same sleep issue few posts back and I was really worried going to the test center.
AWA section: I had templates for both issue and argument sections and I just followed that. no problems here.. easy topics. took 5 min break
Quant: Started with a medium difficulty question. I picked the right answer first but suddenly started to doubt myself and the nerves got me right away. Second question was permutation, third and 4th questions were really easy and I was thrown off-balance from then on. I kept thinking I was going downhill from there because of the easy questions. I said to myself i will cancel the score if I get few more easy ones. The next Q was a prob and the next one I didn't have a single clue on how to attack. Overall there was 1 SD (simple), 1 median, 2 work types, several number properties DS questions. I kept my eye on the clock and forced myself to guess on few Qs just to finish the section on time. Last 4 or 5 Qs were really easy and those helped a lot.
I took the 5 min break. I felt I can go on for another 1.15hrs and so didn't go out.
Verbal: Started with a SC, then a simple 35 line long RC and the next 10 question were mainly SCs and CRs in some order. After that there were two RCs back to back. I couldn't gauge my progress on this section because somewhere I read if you don't get SCs continously in the first 15 questions, you are not doing well. So I just couldn't get a handle on it.
I thought about cancelling my score at the end but realised that I needed to know where I stand for my next attempt. To my surprise 680 popped up. I am little bit disappointed with Q47. I am non-native english speaker and the verbal score reflected pretty much close to my practice scores.
One thing I can say is stay calm. It's easier said than done. For several of us it's just the test anxiety that seprates us from scoring high.
I plan to apply to UC Berkeley part time and I am not sure whether they expect high quant. If they do I may have to retake the test or look at other possiblities like math class etc..

Congrats on scoring well. 680 by all means is a good score.
How was the verbal, is it comparable to the OG. Was maths harder than OG. Can you compare it to any prep material available.
