Hey guys-

Had a question on when I can quit work. I am currently in the US on an H1 and am planning on doing a change of status into F1. Couple of questions:

1. What is the earliest that i can apply for the change of status from H1 to F1?

Your application for change of status must be received by USCIS during the period of 30 days before the program start date on your I-20 to no later than 30 days after the start date.

2. Do I absolutely have to quit when I get my reciept from USCIS? If not, then when is the earliest or latest that I can quit?

3. Finally, what is the process to apply for the change of status? Do i just send in my H1 papers, I-20 etc? Where can I get more information on this process from?

https://www.columbia.edu/cu/isso/visa/F- ... o_F-1.html

Thanks!

The school will have a lot of info about this. I attended one where the international admissions office discussed about H4 to F1 conversion, the petition details, the USCIS received date, the acceptance date and it significance etc. H1 to F1 should be similar.
