LOL

Why not write about it and just explain what the group is in the essay? Its definetly very community oriented...

space, my dear, space.

In UNC's career progression app, I had 1200 words with which to weave my magic. In Duke's, I have 1 page. I am in the hacking mode. I said I was a VISTA, but didn't get specific about the program itself. (domestic version of peace corps, one year term, full-time, poverty wages, capacity building for anti-poverty orgs.) Instead, I used what space I had to talk about what I did (fightin' the man, you know, on behalf of the down-trodden).

Can't you mention this in the first long essay as to how your background/value system encouraged you do this VISTA thing.

So I served as an AmeriCorps*VISTA right out of college. I am trying to decide how much i need to explain this program. I know at least a couple of my schools have included VISTA experience as a way of showing how diverse their incoming students are.

So do you all know what it is? Even a little? Have a general impression? Will my adcom know?

Institutionalized preaching of Catholic faith to the poor through the thinly veiled premise of assisting those in need?

Did I get it right?

aaudetat,
in my essays I had a similar problem but with different organizations. what I did was:

"I joined org. XXX, with a mission of duing this ...."

so in one sentence I provided minimal background and continued from there

All you need is half a sentence:

I have also spent over a year working with Americorps*VISTA, a non-profit institution that provides assistance to the poor, where I have helped bla ...
