What are some "middle-of-the-road" MBA/Masters of Finance programs in the Washington, DC area (or within say an hour's drive)?

I believe my wife's GMAT score is a 550, although I'm not really sure. I've been tasked with finding her a school in the DC area, and I don't know anything about MBA programs.

It appears George Mason is a pretty good school at which she has a chance of getting in? ANy others? Thanks for your help.

Maybe GW? I think Georgetown and MD are a bit more competitive so she would probably need to raise her GMAT score to look at those programs.

George Washington University - MSF, MBA
John Hopkins - MSF, MBA
Loyola College in Maryland - MSF, MBA
Georgetown McDonough - MBA

Georgetown McDonough---I guess that wouldn't carry quite the same weight as whatever the regular Georgetown is? Thanks for the suggestion---I had no idea there were two.

What about a slightly broader area? I was looking at Penn State for her, and not being familiar with the area, thought it might be reasonably close, but I guess 4 hours (according to Google) is a bit much---still, I would think there would be some reasonable commuting options in Virginia or elsewhere?...maybe?

Are there any other schools within a 3 hour commute of DC?
Thanks for your help again---I really don't know anything about (1) DC (we are on the west coast), or (2) MBA programs, so your help is much appreciated.

McDonough is the name of the business school at Georgetown. It's a good school - in top 25.

I think she should first consider what type of program she wants.

Part-Time
Full-Time
Evening
Weekend
Online

Penn State has a good online program that requires a couple (I think) of residencies. That means she'll have to be on-campus for a week about two times over the course of the program. The rest of the work is done online.

If you don't know about MBA Podcaster, it can be a good resource for her/you. We produce podcasts on MBA related topics.

I'd suggest the following shows:

"Part-Time vs. Full-Time"
"Getting an MBA vs MS in Finance"
"Choosing the Right Business School"

Check out MBAPodcaster.com and search under "podcasts" for these shows.

Also, Business Week posts rankings and profiles of business schools by program type - full-time, part, distance and executive - so check that out as well.

There have been some good suggestions above. William & Mary and Richmond are both worth a closer look. If you are willing to go as far as Philadelpia you have some additional options such as Temple.
