Hi guys,
I am wondering if I have a chance to attend a decent business school with my weak profile.
Currently, I am finishing my bachelor's degree and somehow I feel like I'm running out of time. I am already 25. (had to do military service + 13 years of school- did not fail, used to be like that back then, +1 wasted year at a uni I did not like - no escuse for that, except for family issues)
My GPA from a German public university is relatively low (International Cultural and Business Studies) which is why I am currently studying for the Gmat and will try to ace it in order to apply for a MS in Management program from IE, Esade, Duke, Eada or Grenoble Business School (and hopefully compensate my low GPA.
Apart from finishing my bachelor's and studying for the Gmat, I have been volunteering as a German teacher for refugees for almost 1 year and volunteered in international development in Greece two years ago. I spent 9 months as an international student in Cyprus and completed an internship at a boutique consulting firm in Spain (6 months). I speak fluent Spanish and reasonable French.
A MS program from a European business school would probably make more sense for me as a European citizen, however, I have always wanted to spend a longer time in the US. This is why I wanted to give the MMS:FOB from Fuqua a shot, too.
Would maybe a good summer program at a business school in the US before the MS at a European uni be a reasonable compromise? Or would it make more sense trying to boost my profile and land an internship at a good company for the time prior to business school? (Again, the big four consulting firms obviously turned me down the last time I applied)
Btw: I am far from acing the Gmat. My best CAT on Manhattan was a 530 which was huge progress for me. My two Gmat Prep CATs were 450 (no study, no knowledge about GMAT) and 470. I am not very positive that I will ever be able to score more than 600. Just being realistic.
So, yes I am pretty desperate right now. Is this the time to stop thinking big? Do you have any advice on strategies or business schools where I still have a chance? Are my top choices way out of my league?
I would be more than happy about any advice you have for me!
Best regards,
salieri
