Hi Tyler,
The scoring algorithm on the Official GMAT is far more complicated than most people realize. Since that algorithm is proprietary, no GMAT company has an exact match for it, thus CAT scores can vary a bit based on the 'biases' involved in their respective designs. The most realistic CATs available are the 6 from GMAC, but the CATs from Kaplan,
MGMAT and Veritas are all 'close enough' to the real thing that they will provide you with a relatively realistic score assessment (assuming that you correctly take the CAT in a realistic fashion).
On your most recent CAT, what was your Overall Score - and did you score a V45 or a V35?
Before I can offer you any additional advice, it would help if you could provide a bit more information on how you've been studying and your goals:
Studies:
1) How long have you studied? How many hours do you typically study each week?
2) What study materials have you used so far?
3) On what dates did you take EACH of your CATs/mocks and how did you score on EACH (including the Quant and Verbal Scaled Scores for EACH)?
Goals:
4) What is your overall goal score?
5) When are you planning to take the GMAT?
6) When are you planning to apply to Business School and what Schools are you planning to apply to?
GMAT assassins aren't born, they're made,
Rich
Hello, Rich. thank you for replying. My overall score on my most recent Economist GMAT CAT, taken today, was 740 [Q47 (26/31 correct), V45 (25/36 correct)]. I was shocked at the V45 considering the number of incorrect responses. This does not correlate to the normal number of incorrect answers for V45 on the real GMAT exam. I will now answer your questions:
1. I have been studying since the beginning of 2020. I average about 20 hours of study each week.
2. Study materials have included the Economist GMAT Tutor, GMAT Club Exams and Questions, and the three
OG guides (Overall, Quant, and Verbal).
3. Mock results are as follows:
1/22/2020: Economist GMAT 560 IR5 Q35 V31 (Baby was screaming, lots of distractions)
2/09/2020: Official GMAC Exam 710 IR5 Q46 V40
2/20/2020: Economist GMAT 690 IR7 Q48 V37
2/29/2020: Economist GMAT 740 IR7 Q47 V45
GMAT Club Quant Mocks
1/31/2020: Q46
2/05/2020: Q49
2/14/2020: Q39
2/14/2020: Q36
2/16/2020: Q39
2/16/2020: Q43
2/25/2020: Q46
2/27/2020: Q47
2/28/2020: Q48
4. My overall goal score is 730.
5. 3/11/2020 I am taking the GMAT.
6. Since I'm local to Southern California, I am looking primarily at UCLA Anderson, with USC Marshall and UCI Merage as backup schools. I'm a white male, 34, licensed Mechanical Engineer, experience in Operations Management, manufacturing, and oil-and-gas, about to be laid off through no fault of my own due to a corporate restructuring (could have stayed with company through a transfer, but wife didn't want to leave SoCal) and want to pivot in my career. I had a 3.5 GPA in undergrad.
