Wharton EMBA R1 Deadline: 6 Weeks Away! How to Submit in Time
The first deadline (of two) for Wharton's 2021-2022 admissions cycle is on December 8, 2021, which is currently only six weeks away! Many candidates become concerned around this time about whether they can prepare an application in time. Believing that Round 1 is a better time to apply than Round 2, when the numbers of applicants often surge to high levels (making admissions harder), candidates are eager to know how they can put a winning application together in time for Round 1. What should they be doing in the time left before the deadline? Consider getting the steps below in motion to try to put yourself on a path to success.
Revise and Enhance Your Resume
With six weeks to go, you should revise your resume so that you can reach out to Wharton, securing their high-level feedback about the strength of your candidacy. Please note, though, that you should not send your resume in until you are certain it presents you in the best light possible as a candidate for a top EMBA program. An application resume differs somewhat from a job resume, and you want to put your best face forward. So, revise your resume well!
Take Your Executive Assessment Exam
You should also begin studying for your Executive Assessment (EA) exam. Candidates who do well on the Executive Assessment exam spend about four weeks studying for it, dedicating time weekly for studying GMAC materials and taking mock exams. The amount of time you will need to prepare depends on your existing quantitative and English proficiency. Please note, Wharton will often allow you to turn in your EA score a couple of weeks after the deadline. So, if you need a little extra time to prepare, consider getting the rest of your application ready first and submitting the EA a couple of weeks after the deadline, with Wharton’s permission.
Engage with the School
Your admissions journey should also include attending information sessions or webinars and reaching out to current students and alumni members. You should demonstrate interest in the program, beyond reading the website.
Set Your Formal Admissions Interview
With only six weeks before the Round 1 deadline, you must also prepare for your formal admissions interview. Unlike most other EMBA programs, Wharton prefers that you interview before the application deadline. So, you should book an interview soon, as the remaining dates before the deadline are filling up. But, remember, this is the only formal interview you will receive, so you want to prepare well. This means you should have your “positioning” down – what you intend to convey about what you bring to the table, your short-term goals, and your long-term goals. Ideally, you should write a draft of your two long essays – Wharton essays 1 and 2 – before the interview, so that you have refined what you will say about these important matters.
Draft Winning Essays
Allot plenty of time for brainstorming and composing outstanding essays. The essays represent your marketing package. Written to a high standard, the essays can help you stand out from the crowd or help you override a soft spot in your profile. So, use the essays excellently!
Line Up Great Recommendations
You should reach out to two recommendation writers to ensure they can compose outstanding recommendations for you in time for the R1 deadline. Take the time to consider who will be the best writers for you. Who can write a glowing recommendation that conveys deep details about your strengths as a businessperson and leader? Once you decide, you should reach out to the writers, secure their commitment to write for you, and guide them about what a great recommendation looks like.
