For those of you interested in a Wharton EMBA, you may be accustomed to looking for the traditional R1 deadline and consistently seeing the deadline set during the first week of December. In a big departure from prior years, Wharton has set its Round 1 EMBA deadline on October 12, nearly two months earlier than their years-long tradition.
Unlike most other top EMBA programs, Wharton only has two deadlines, and many candidates want to make the first of the two to ensure they apply when most of the seats for the class are still available.
For some candidates, the earlier deadline is not welcome news because it means they must shift into high gear now in order to make the October deadline. Wharton is quite demanding in what it seeks in an EA score, so some candidates will need to hit the books with extra vigor now to prepare for the October deadline.
Even if you must put in extra effort, it can sometimes prove advantageous to apply in Round 1 rather than Round 2, simply because you are competing when most of the seats are still available. Also, in Round 1, you might be affected less by factors beyond your control, such as whether the school admitted someone from your company in Round 1 or whether the school already admitted many candidates with your profile (industry profile, country/ethnic profile, etc.) and may therefore be less receptive to your application.
Even though the time to prepare an application has been shortened, there is still plenty of time to put a great application together. We will soon post suggestions about how to pace yourself over the next three months before the R1 deadline.
The Wharton 2022-2023 deadlines are:
Round 1 Application Deadline: Wed., October 12, 2022 (11:59 p.m.*) Interview Invitations: Wed., November 16, 2022 Decisions Released: Wed., December 21, 2022
Round 2 Application Deadline: Wed., January 18, 2023 (11:59 p.m.*) Interview Invitations: Wed., February 22, 2023 Decisions Released: Wed., March 22, 2023
*PST for San Francisco applicants. EST for Philadelphia applicants. Your application must be complete by the deadline in order for a decision to be released on time.
