Wharton EMBA R2 Deadline: 7 Weeks Away! How to Submit in Time
The second and final deadline for Wharton’s 2021-2022 EMBA admissions cycle is on February 9, 2022, which is currently only seven weeks away! If you have Wharton on your list of desired business schools, you may be wondering whether you can prepare an application in time. You may have heard that in Round 2, the volume of applicants usually increases notably relative to Round 1 and competition is generally keener in Round 2. The challenge, therefore, is not simply getting an application together in time, but making the application so compelling that you make it through to a “yes.” You need to compose outstanding essays that showcase your best achievements and what you have to contribute to Wharton. You also need to ensure your recommendation writers help you to truly stand out. What should you be doing in the time left before the R2 deadline? Consider the steps below to try to put yourself on a good path.
Revise and Enhance Your Resume
With seven weeks to go, you should revise your resume so that you can reach out to Wharton, securing their high-level feedback about the strength of your candidacy. You should contact Wharton as soon as you can to get on their radar screen. But, please note, you should not send your resume in until you are certain it presents you in the best light possible as an EMBA candidate. An application resume differs somewhat from a job resume, and you want to put your best face forward. So, revise your resume well!
Take Your Executive Assessment Exam
You should also begin studying for your Executive Assessment (EA) exam. How much time you will need to prepare for the EA depends on your background. Candidates who are more actively engaged in quant work and who studied quantitative subjects in school may be able to prepare more quickly than others. You should give yourself at least four weeks and track how well-prepared you are by taking a mock exam that GMAT provides in its prep materials. Wharton is one of the pickiest U.S. EMBA programs when it comes to the EA score, so aim for a good score. For Americans, that is usually around 152 or higher (depending on your specific profile). For candidates from highly competitive pools, like Indian foreign national men, you may need to land a score closer to 157 or higher. Please note, Wharton will often allow you to turn in your EA score after the deadline. So, if you need a little extra time to prepare, consider getting the rest of your application ready first and submitting the EA after the deadline, with Wharton’s permission.
Engage with the School
Your admissions journey should also include attending information sessions or webinars and reaching out to current students and alumni members. You should demonstrate interest in the program, beyond reading the website.
Set Your Formal Admissions Interview
With only seven weeks before the Round 2 deadline, you must also prepare for your formal admissions interview. Unlike most other EMBA programs, Wharton wants you to undergo your formal interview before the application deadline. This is the only formal interview you will have as part of your Wharton admissions process, so prepare well for it. Have your “positioning” down – what you intend to convey about what you bring to the table, your short-term goals, and your long-term goals. Ideally, you should write a draft of your two long essays – Wharton essays 1 and 2 – before the interview so that you have refined what you will say about these important matters.
Draft Winning Essays
You should dedicate ample time to brainstorming and composing outstanding admissions essays. Wharton gives you a lot of essay space in which to sell your credentials – approximately 2,000 words, which is much more than many other U.S. EMBA programs. The essays represent your marketing package. Written to a high standard, they can help you stand out from the pack. So, use the essays excellently!
Line Up Great Recommendations
You should reach out to two recommendation writers to ensure they can compose outstanding recommendations for you in time for the R2 deadline. Think about who will be the best writers for you. The recommendations should convey details about your strengths as a businessperson and leader. Remember, we are currently in the midst of the holiday season, so some of your writers may not be available until early January. So, make certain to reach out to them as soon as you can, so they can get the recommendations composed before the deadline. You should gain an understanding of what an extraordinary letter of recommendation looks like and guide your writers about what sorts of topics are highest-impact.
